Film Overview

Command and I Shall Obey is a realistic depiction of the tragedy of untreated psychosis. Auditory hallucinations, when the sufferer experiences voices that are not real, is a cardinal symptom of psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia. Command hallucinations are common in psychosis, and can range from innocuous comments to serious commands that the person feels compelled to follow. These can often be commands to harm self or others. Balram suffers from psychosis, and hears voices commanding him about his daughter Asha. Despite the desperate efforts of his wife and the advice of a psychiatrist, Balram does not take medication. Torn between the commands that torment him and his love for his daughter, he has to choose. To give in or to protect his daughter?
